Lucho-schooling

The greatest endeavor of all.   Lucho has a rare form of Epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. He also has Trisomy 21. Public School wasn’t the best fit for him because of his seizures and the difficulty of recognizing when he needs medical attention for his seizures. His favorite way to learn is through music and movement.  His education at home involves lots of skills to develop and reinforce.

LennoxGastaut Syndrome

Luis has Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a form of Epilepsy. This form of epilepsy has caused many challenges in his learning process and daily activities. I noticed that when he has to focus, he easily gets absent. I have to call him back to me.

In addition to the LGS form of Epilepsy, he has a traumatic brain injury which brings post traumatic epileptic seizures. Some seizures present as “behavioral issues”, and are known as locomotor (focal) seizures.

Learning with him can be difficult but rewarding. He is very active, which means he’s a kinesthetic learner. As long as he is moving or I’m singing and moving, he is engaged.
